Flower Care Instructions

The longer your flowers last, the happier you will be.  And just like anything else, flowers need a bit of TLC (Tender Loving Care) themselves. If you follow these simple steps, you will get a lot more enjoyment from your flowers.

Make sure that your vase is squeaky clean.

Flowers are living things, just like us, any contamination in the vase can affect the flowers.

We recommend that you wash the vase thoroughly with soap & hot water, also use bleach to remove built-up residue. Thoroughly rinse afterwards.

Cutting your Flowers

Whether cutting flowers from your own garden or having flowers delivered, always use a really sharp knife like a stanley knife or garden shears.

DO NOT use scissors, this will close the end of the stem, resulting in the flowers not being able to drink water.

Before putting the flowers in the vase, trim the ends at an 45 degree angle.  This will increase the surface area through which the flowers can draw up water.

Trim foliage

Trim all leaves that fall below the waterline because they will rot more quickly, causing contamination of the water & shortening the life of the flowers.

Replace Water

Change the water every few days or if you notice it becoming discoloured or smelly.

Again, contaminated water will shorten the life of the flowers.

When you do replace the water, retrim the ends of the flower stalks as previously mentioned

Cool Environment

Flowers like a cool environment that is out of the direct sunlight. Any extra heat will make the flowers wilt as they struggle to draw up enough water.

Bacteria in the Water

To reduce or eliminate the bacteria in the water, add a 1/4 teaspoon of bleach to the water after washing the vase.
